We have an exciting opportunities for skilled Craft Technician Control & Instrumentation (C&I) to join our engineering maintenance teams, supporting safe and reliable plant operation at Dounreay.  Based in either the Fuel Cycle Area (FCA) or the Reactors, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality maintenance and project activities in a highly regulated, technically challenging environment.

As part of a professional and experienced team, you will work to the highest regulatory and engineering standards, troubleshooting complex systems, improving equipment reliability and supporting the next generation of technicians through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

What you will be doing:

In this hands‑on role, you will deliver effective C&I maintenance across a range of plant, systems and equipment, using diagnostic expertise to identify faults, resolve issues and improve long‑term performance. You will contribute to continuous improvement by refining procedures, addressing obsolescence and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard, with clear communication and documentation throughout.

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault investigation and defect rectification
  • Diagnose equipment, systems and component issues and propose practical, compliant solutions
  • Review and improve maintenance procedures, reports and plant instructions
  • Support safe handover, isolation control and continuous improvement initiatives

What will I bring:

You will be a safety‑focused and self‑motivated technician with strong technical foundations in instrumentation maintenance. Comfortable working independently or as part of a team, you will bring clear communication, attention to detail and the confidence to share expertise with others while maintaining high professional standards.

  • Instrument apprenticeship with HNC in Engineering (or equivalent) plus relevant experience
  • Proven experience in instrument maintenance within an industrial or regulated environment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and IT skills, with the ability to mentor apprentices
  • Proactive, safety‑oriented approach with the confidence to identify and resolve issues
  • Post specific capability analysis assessment
