Job Description

A vacancy has arisen within Site Services, Technical for a Labs & Analytical Support Deputy Manager.  The purpose of the post is to manage the delivery of the analytical programme and the job holder will be responsible for planning/monitoring, control/management and delivery of the programme and projects to time, cost and quality.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lab Analytical Support Manager in creating, implementing and maintaining the Lifetime Plan and Strategies for the Laboratory Service taking into account analysis of dependencies and constraints, scope, risks and assumptions.  Execute project management strategies, optimising plans to respond to changes when necessary 
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 17025, 17020 and maintenance of UKAS accreditation, where relevant 
  • Interact with regulatory bodies, internal and external auditors as required 
  • Assist the Labs & Analytical Support Manager to identify, interpret and ensure safe delivery of analytical requirements, both current and future, to the satisfaction of internal and external regulators 
  • Monitor and report on internal and contractor performance against safety, costs, programme and quality, identify deviations and implement remedial actions as appropriate 
  • Manage resolution and interactions to ensure operational delays are minimised.  Review and report on identified problems and incidents, establishing causes and identifying, recommending and implementing solutions 
  • Maintain and develop the CSS quality management system 
  • Ensure sample preparation, routine analysis and reporting is undertaken and delivered for regulatory and project decommissioning analysis, meeting all relevant defined CSS deadlines 
  • Ensure non-routine and emergent sample preparation, analysis and reporting is undertaken to support decommissioning and targets, balancing resources as necessary to deliver to customer deadlines 
  • Manage the preparation, approval and issue of technical and safety documentation through review to implementation 
  • Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to the post including Authorisation to site emergency response role 
  • Manage Dounreay staff as a line manager 

Attributes and experience:

  • Degree in in Science/Engineering or equivalent qualification plus experience
  • Comprehensive laboratory and nuclear/industrial experience
  • Characterisation & analytical experience would be advantageous
  • Management skills
  • Post specific capability analysis assessment 10
