Project Supervisor
A vacancy has arisen within Reactors Programme at Dounreay Fast Reactor (DFR) for a Project Supervisor. The successful candidate will supervise the safe delivery of physical work within DFR. The job holder will be responsible for supervising SQEP individuals to undertake routine safety and compliance in addition to decommissioning tasks
What you will be doing:
You will play a critical role in the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of multi-disciplinary decommissioning tasks, ensuring work is executed within the safety case and operating envelope by competent personnel. The role supports the full lifecycle of project delivery through supervision of work activities, coordination with contractors and stakeholders, oversight of work control documentation, participation in hazard reviews, and proactive management of safety, environmental and operational performance. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise safe, compliant project activities, reviewing and preparing safe systems of work, monitoring contractor performance and integrating updates to processes or legislation.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, supporting work scheduling, hazard reviews, project reporting, and preparation of handover documentation.
- Conduct safety inspections, investigate abnormal conditions, act as Building Supervisor, and participate in site emergency arrangements.
- Perform relevant management appointments (e.g., Permit Issuer, Risk Assessor, Local Incident Controller) and line manage Dounreay staff.

The successful candidate will bring proven experience from an industrial environment, demonstrating confident supervision of personnel and coordination of work activities within safe and controlled operating conditions. They will apply strong organisational and planning skills to manage tasks effectively while maintaining a high level of safety awareness and compliance. With excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, the postholder will contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture, showing adaptability and a proactive approach in a dynamic working environment. They should also demonstrate:
- Strong industrial experience with a solid understanding of work control processes, safe systems of work and safety considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise teams, coordinate activities and plan work effectively using sound organisational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an adaptable and positive mindset that supports an inclusive and collaborative team environment.
- Post specific capability analysis assessment
