Job Description

A vacancy has arisen within the site services for a Senior Environmental Specialist.  The purpose of the post is to provide experienced environmental professionals to execute the land quality teams programme of work. The job holder will be responsible for performing and directing environmental activities and document delivery throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply specialised knowledge and experience within the field of environmental management
  • Undertake land quality assessments, including Phase 1 Preliminary investigation and risk assessments, Phase 2 Exploratory site investigations and risk assessments, Phase 3 Implement remediation schemes, Phase 4 Remediation completion and verification reporting and Phase 5 – Zone Closure
  • Recommending and implementing solution-based responses to challenges
  • Collate, model, and interpret complex technical data sets
  • Convey complex oral and written scientific information in a clear and concise manner, suitable for the audience
  • Identify non-compliance/bad practice and instigate remedial action
  • Support and development of management system processes that work towards the closure of Dounreay and release from regulatory controls
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to expedite efficient safe project delivery.
  • Manage staff as a line manager as required
  • Perform the responsibilities of management appointments relevant to the post

Aptitudes and experience:

  • Degree qualified in Science/Engineering or equivalent qualifications plus experience
  • Experience of contaminated land assessment and remediation 
  • Extensive experience of working at nuclear/engineering sites
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of hydrogeology, radiological performance assessment or contaminated land assessment/remediation OR
  • Qualified geologist, hydrogeologist, hydrologist, environmental scientist, geochemist or other environmental scientific discipline related to land quality management
  • Professional membership preferably chartered to relevant body
  • Post specific physical capability analysis assessment
