Senior Health Physicist
Job Description
A vacancy has arisen for a senior health physicist to provide radiation protection advice and support to Dounreay on the observance of the Ionising Radiations Regulations (IRR) 2017 and to support the ongoing programme of decommissioning work at Dounreay. The job holder will be responsible for providing the site projects with relevant and timely information and support in line with legal requirements.

We are looking for someone to join our team who has excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with a wide range of Dounreay and external contactor personnel, along with good organisational and IT skills. They should be able to demonstrate good organisational and planning skills and have a positive approach, be self-motivated, assertive and pose the ability to use initiative.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support the maintenance of codes of practice, standards and guidance
- Develop and undertake local audit and inspection to ensure compliance with Dounreay management systems and IRRs
- Provide radiological advice to Dounreay staff and projects to enable compliance with IRR17 and all Dounreay radiological protection standards, procedures and instructions
- Interface with stakeholders, including regulators and auditors on radiation protection issues
- Represent Dounreay at internal forums
- Participate in the site audit programme as a specialist advisor
- Assist in the development of site emergency procedures and contingency arrangements
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the Dounreay site on the implementation of radiation protection management processes and standard
- Contribute to the development of and provide specialist radiation protection training
- Mentor and supervise and provide development opportunities for Health Physics staff
- Deliver specified tasks from the zero harm plan
- Undertake health physics competence assessment
- Support the implementation of emerging topics
- Provide Health Physicist cover to site on a rota basis
- Be an appointed radiation protection advisor
- Perform the responsibilities of Management Appointments relevant to post
Aptitudes and experience:
- Qualified to degree level in science or equivalent qualification and experience
- Hold a valid certificate of competence to be a radiation protection adviser
- Demonstrable health physics experience
- Post specific capability analysis assessment
