Senior Project Manager
A vacancy has arisen within reactors programme for a senior project manager. The purpose of the job is to manage the delivery of a number of multi-disciplinary projects and the job holder will be responsible for planning/monitoring control/management and delivery of a portfolio of projects within their department to time, cost and quality.

The successful candidate will be the senior project manager for the strategically important reactors fuels project and operations work at both the Dounreay Fast Reactor (DFR) and the Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) facilities, leading the breeder fuel removal project and operations scope being delivered at DFR and the PFR Irradiated Fuels Cave (IFC) operations and the future PFR fuels project. The role will be a key part of the reactors programme leadership team supporting reactors programme boards and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authorities’ Dounreay irradiated fuel consolidation programme board. Initially the focus will be on the delivery of the ongoing DFR Breeder Fuel Removal scope, which is a critical project for the site, and will help to shape the strategy for the future delivery of PFR Fuels work whilst delivering enabling works in the IFC. Alongside the direct delivery of the Reactors fuels scope this role will also support the Reactors Programme Manager and leadership team with project governance work at Reactors including sitting on Project Boards as an independent for non-fuels projects and will work closely with the existing senior project manager and senior operations manager’s delivering Alkali Metal Treatment, Decommissioning, and Infrastructure Upgrade projects at both reactors.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute project management strategies, optimising plans to respond to changes when necessary
- Create, implement, and maintain programme baselines and strategies for the project, taking into account analysis of dependencies and constraints, scope, risks, and assumptions
- Liaise effectively with stakeholders involved both directly and indirectly with the projects
- Design and evaluate organisational governance structures for projects, including lessons learnt and evaluation procedures
- Assess the impact to the programme and project of identified problems and incidents and develop and implement the necessary mitigation actions
- Support the Senior Team in the delivery of projects/programmes of work and sanction approvals in line with the site programme baseline
- Apply appropriate project management techniques and configuration measures
- Efficiently manage projects within the bounds of the safety case
- Be responsible for the development and implementation of succession planning
- Participate in site emergency exercises as required
- Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to the post including appointment to Site Emergency Response Role
- Lead Dounreay staff as a Line Manager
Qualifications and experience:
- Degree in science/engineering or equivalent qualifications plus experience
- Extensive contract management and nuclear industry experience
- Experience of both project and operational delivery is desired, however demonstration of suitable understanding of both disciplines and transferable skills achieved in one or other discipline may be considered.
- Previous experience of fuel or waste management work or similar process driven environments requiring a high degree of quality assurance is desired
- Ideal candidate would be a good motivator with experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- Candidates should have good communication skills and experience communicating with senior stakeholders
