Job Description

Vacancies have arisen across site for Senior Waste Specialists.  The purpose of the post is to execute the waste organisations programme of work and ensure compliance with waste legislation and adherence to the site’s waste strategies.  The job holder will be responsible for supporting delivery of the site’s waste strategy by through the provision of expert advice to the site on waste management practices and implementation of waste management system compliant with waste legislation.

Responsibilities: 

  • Apply specialised waste knowledge and experience to implement the annual site funding limit plan and waste strategies for the site
  • Develop and implement improvements to the waste management system including but not limited to technical procedures, forms, instructions 
  • Review and approve waste documentation in line with project and legislative requirements, including project specific waste plans, activity assessments, waste/characterisation advice notes and waste consignments 
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders and the site’s regulators including NDA, SEPA, ONR
  • Provide waste and regulatory advice to waste advisors and project teams
  • Mentor waste specialists on matters related to regulatory and waste compliance
  • Provide area waste officer training and waste awareness training 
  • Review and report to the Waste & Environmental Delivery manager and Site Waste Compliance manager problems and incidents, establishing causes and identifying, recommending and implementing solutions as required 
  • Create documentation in support of the overall site waste management process 
  • Manage, model and interpret waste data sets 
  • Manage waste container stocks and procurements in line with the site waste inventory 
  • Act as a key stakeholder in a range of waste processes, including modification reports, hazard and operability studies, unusual occurence investigations, best practical means assessments 
  • Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to post 
  • Manage staff as Dounreay line manager  

Aptitudes and experience:

  • HND in Science/Engineering or equivalent qualifications plus experience
  • Comprehensive waste experience, preferably with a focus on waste diversion
  • Relevant nuclear/industrial experience
  • Post specific capability analysis assessment 10
